AOTW: alternative trap

“Not every rap song had to sound like a mobb deep record.”

When we hear the name LUCKI, many think of sad slow lyrics on an angelic beat. but there existed a LUCKI before the chubby rapper the world has grown to love.
Lucki Camel Jr’s first studio album titled “alternative trap” released over a decade ago in 2013, one year after the rise of chicago music’s drill scene with artists like Chief Keef, Lil Reese and lil Durk.
LUCKI, named Lucki Eck$ at the time of this project, took a different approach with instrumentals, rapping about his lifestyle and associations on classical soundtracks and reggae beats, with songs like “no troubles”. in opposition to Chicago’s hard hitting, hi-hat heavy drill beats. Lucki Eck$ paved the way for future artists to break free from the traditional hip-hop style and be themselves; not every rap song had to sound like a mobb deep record.
LUCKI’s originality and choice to stay in his own lane from the beginning of his career is the reason why we chose this album as our AOTW.
