AOTW: untitled unmastered.

Kendrick Lamar Duckworth, an American artist from Compton California, also an actor, songwriter, and producer, is known for his creative and carefully curated albums that tend to have a single purpose and idea in mind, be it a call to attention on personal situations, or a call to action on political issues. On March 4 2016, Kendrick dedicated an album release of 8 unreleased, unfinished and untitled songs, with music ranging from trap to jazz rap, “Untitled Unmastered”.

The untitled album starts off with untitled one, an introductory track that starts off quiet and slow, turning into a boom bap style Kendrick is known to excel in. You would think, with Kendrick’s history, the following songs would follow this pattern, but as you go through each track you realize that you can’t really predict anything being played. They all have their own unique individuality, from production, to vocals themselves. The only consistency is Kendrick Lamar’s talent for finding gems in music as different as it may be from his main genre and making it into his own personal style that audiences have come to know and love.

The album, unexpectedly, did more than fill the hunger fans had for more music, it sparked conversations needed regarding leaks of unreleased music for all artists, showing them that music that has been sat on, can end up being one of the most incredible displays of talent and a service to a fanbase.
