AOTW: SATURATION III
the world’s greatest boyband.
american hip-hop collective brockhampton formed a mass fanbase with their blends of genres such as pop, r&b, rap, and experimental production. members were involved with handling every aspect of their music, having a "do it yourself" mindset. that made their sound stand out.
brockhampton went on an intense trilogy run with their saturation series. following the buzz surrounding their work on all-american trash in 2016, they worked on, and released saturation, saturation ii and saturation iii, all within a year (absolutely nuts). with each release an imprrovement from the former album, saturation iii reached the climax as the most polished work of the trilogy.
the release of the saturation trilogy came about through a short time frame, constant tours, and relentless online attention. that sense of urgency, that pressure, was reflected perfectly within the release of saturation iii, as if the group strived to capture fleeting ideas and energies, before it slipped away for good. iii revolved around tension, the highs and lows of success, how sudden recognition affects someone's ego, and vulnerabilities at the same time.
the album works great because of the contrasts it presented. a polished piece that still felt raw, iii was a perfect conclusion to a trilogy that defined a very important moment in the story of the world's greatest boyband.
