AOTW: Currents

feel like a brand new person.

Kevin parker, better known underh is studio name tame impala, made a significant shift in his production with the release of his third studio album, currents. while his previous work had a more psychedelic rock atmosphere to it with innerspeaker and lonerism, parker pivoted into an electric, synth style which was very experimental for its time.

currents was almost entirely made by parker himself, which was a good emphasis on his work as a solo artist. that enabled him to sing about themes involving personal growth and the discomfort of change, which can be heard on songs like eventually, and new person, same old mistakes. this was something fans resonated well with, making the project feel more personal.

the release of currents helped tame impala expand his audience worldwide, as well as influence modern artists to blend music such as hip hop and pop with a synth and psychedelic atmosphere. he has worked with artists such as the weeknd, sza, kanye west, and travis scott, who have all taken a note of his influence, using it to shape modern music today.
