Donald glover, known by his stage name childish gambino had a breakthrough sophmore album, which many consider to be one of his best pieces of work to date. 

bino wanted to make a move beyond punchline rap and explore genres, focusing on deeper thems of self perception and cultures. with these ideas in mind, childish gamnbino got to work on his album, because the internet. the album was more than just music, as bino released a 72 page screenplay called "the boy" meant to be read alongside the album. gambino went the extra mile, portraying himself as his character leading up to the release of the album. the project follows a wealthy young man, who is in a sense, trapped in a state of permanent adolescence because of his privlege. spending most of his days trolling on the internet, "the boy," struggles to formulate genuine connections in his life. 

the album is very diverse, blending multiple genres in one project while maintaining a thorough storyline, detailing the life of a young man who struggles to find the line between online and offline identity. bino wanted to create an entire world with the release of this project, which is a reality that many young people have experienced, or are experiencing.
