AOTW: 2093

“But I love feeling this way”

Noah Oliver Smith, better known by his stage name Yeat, had a quick rise into the rap scene with his unique and experimental sound. With collaborations with artists such as Drake, he has cemented himself as a prominent figure in modern music, breaking through with albums such as 2 Alivë, Lyfë and Aftërlyfe.

With his following album 2093, Yeat showed a change in his work, diverting from his typical autotune rap on synth heavy, distorted 808 beats. While Yeat’s trademark vocals and production are still present, this album dives deeper into experimentation, blending elements of hyperpop, ambient, and even industrial influences. Tracks on 2093 feel more cohesive and thematic, reflecting a futuristic, cinematic atmosphere that almost feels surreal.

Two standout tracks, “breathe” and “if we being real” showcase the diversity of this project. “Breathe” features heavy punching basslines with heavy synths, sampling Regular Show’s “God of Basketball” soundtrack. On the contrast, “If we being real” feels straight out of a sci-fi movie, with a soft ethereal intro that gradually descends into a layered, immersive soundscape. 2093 does well in showcasing Yeat’s ability to dive into different realms of music to create a unique listening experience for his fans.
