Hykeem Jamaal Carter Jr. has been established in the music scene for quite some time. known for being cousins with rapper kendrick lamar, keem has been making music since his freshman year of high school. his first ever song "come thru" was removed off of the internet with hopes of never being found or recovered. despite not having the energy keem desired, he kept dropping singles and eps. his first breakthrough was in 2019 with the release of the single "orange soda" that made appearances on  the bilboard charts.

keem rode that hype all the way to 2021 where after singles, features and production collaborations, dropped a single with kendrick lamar titled "family ties," which saw widespread global success. on september 10, 2021, keem finally released his debut studio album, the melodic blue. the album featured songs from artists such as brent faiyaz, kendrick lamar (of course), don toliver, with the deluxe album featuring pinkpantheress and lil uzi vert.

keem went on to win two awards for "Video of the year" and "best rap performance" in the 2022 grammy awards. and though no new music has really come from baby keem since, the melodic blue has left fans in great anticipation for the creative route his next album will take, while still savouring the beauty that was his debut album.
